Ljubljana - the green capital of a green country

The city in the heart of Slovenia offers magnificient monuments, interesting museums, modern shops and great gastronomy. Nevertheless, Ljubljana also has the flair of a dreamy little town.

Preseren Square & Old town

The city’s main square combines two famous landmarks in one place. The Franciscan Church and the Tromostovje (Three bridges). The unique bridge by Joze Plecnik, Slovenia’s most famous architect, is also the city’s most famous bridge and the gateway for many tourists. I very loved that you can walk through cobbled streets and admire the beautiful houses. The old town of Ljubljana is almost car-free and you can quickly explore everything on foot. The river Ljubljanica flows through the city and many cafés and restaurants are located by the river.

Ljubljana Castle

Ljubljana Castle (Ljubljanski grad) is on a hill above the city. You have two ways to get to the top of this hill.  Either you walk or you could take the funicular. We decided us to walk, and it was quite easy. Once you reach the top, you will be rewarded with a great view. The building is 900 years old and belongs to the main attraction on the city. There are different things you can do when you are at the castle. There is a great Outlook Tower which offers the most beautiful view of Ljubljana and its surrounding areas. If you want, you can visit the exhibition Sloven History or the Puppet Museum. The ticket for adults is EUR 10 per person. For EUR 13 you have a ticket for castle including return funicular fare.

Dragon Bridge

The Dragon Bridge (Zmajski most) with its famous dragon figures is Ljubljana’s best known city symbol. It is said that only when you have your photo taken with one of the dragons, you really have visited Ljubljana. The dragons look slightly terrifying and almost real. And of course, you believe that dragons might be real when you visit Ljubljana.
